There Is a Happiness That Morning Is
(March 15 - April 1)
by Mickle Maher
The morning after a highly inappropriate display of public passion on the lawn, two Blake scholars find themselves in front of their classes, faced with an ultimatum: apologize or else. Crafted in rhyming pentameter, Happiness “demonstrates [Maher’s] singular ability to push a dry, intellectually rigorous academic exercise so far that it cracks, yielding absurd comedy and searing revelations on the transience of life and love.” --The Chicago Reader
Directed by Bryan Rafael Falcón
A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney
(November 30 - December 10)
by Lucas Hnath
“I’m Walt Disney. This is a screenplay I wrote. It’s about me.” In this dark, staccato comedy, Walt conducts a reading of his screenplay about his last days on earth. It's about everyone who loves him so much, and it's about how sad they're going to be when he's gone. A Public Reading is "a meditation on the human desire to aspire to the status of a god, and the corrupting influence of this wish on the spirit and the flesh.” --The New York Times
