“I’m Walt Disney. This is a screenplay I wrote. It’s about me.” In this dark, staccato comedy, Walt conducts a reading of his screenplay about his last days on earth. It's about everyone who loves him so much, and it's about how sad they're going to be when he's gone. A Public Reading is "a meditation on the human desire to aspire to the status of a god, and the corrupting influence of this wish on the spirit and the flesh.” --The New York Times

Audience: Our Studio Series focuses on actor & story in a minimalistic, intimate 30-seat setting. The Studio Series is best enjoyed by Scoundrels ages 18+.

Bios
Bryan Rafael Falcón
Bryan is Co-founder and Artistic Director at the Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre. Bryan is an award-winning director (MFA Directing, Western Illinois, 2001) and tech entrepreneur with a passion for both education and building and scaling successful organizations. Most recently Bryan directed the Scoundrel & Scamp's inaugural show, Two Plays for Lost Souls: The Yellow Wallpaper and The Love Talker.
Bryan served as Artistic Director for two Indiana-based theatre companies, New World Arts and the Backporch Theatre Company. He served as a director and set designer for numerous shows, including The Carthaginians, Lysistrata, Cloud Tectonics, Night Mother, Bug, Marisol, Love Letters, Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, and Romeo and Juliet.
In Tucson, Bryan has directed at The Rogue Theatre, including The New Electric Ballroom and Awake and Sing. He was recognized as Best Director (2012 Arizona Daily Star Mac Award) for the show The Night Heron.
Bryan serves as board Vice-Chair of the Tucson-based Southwest Folklife Alliance, and as a board member at The Rogue Theatre.
Leah Taylor
Leah Taylor (Daughter) holds an MA in Theatre and Performance Studies from Washington University in St. Louis. A Tucson native, she has worked in Tucson's theatre community as a stage manager, assistant director, dramaturg, and performer. Most recently she served as Assistant Director for Scoundrel & Scamp's Two Plays for Lost Souls. Before that she served as Stage Manager during The Rogue Theatre's 2011-2015 seasons, and Assistant Director for Purgatorio, Betrayal, and Measure for Measure at The Rogue. She recently returned from a summer abroad studying Shakespearean performance at Shakespeare's Globe in London.
Tiffer Hill
Tiffer Hill (Resident Stage Manager) is excited to be with the Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre for their premier season. For the past four and a half years Tiffer served as the Resident Stage Manager of The Gaslight Theatre, stage managing over 2,000 individual performances. He would like to thank Bryan and Elizabeth for the incredible opportunity to be a part of this company, the cast of this production for their dedication and passion, and his family and Gabriella for always being there.
BILL EPSTEIN
A Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Arizona, Bill Epstein (Walt) has produced, directed, written, and acted in productions in the U.S. and Britain, on campuses and in community and commercial theaters. He has played leads in mummers' plays, commedia dell'arte, musicals (West Side Story, Bells Are Ringing), comedies (notably, Simon's Plaza Suite, Shaw's Misalliance, Hart’s Light Up the Sky, Rudnick’s I Hate Hamlet, and Chekhov’s The Festivities), and dramas (notably, Pinter's Old Times, Sophocles' Antigone, Levin’s Deathtrap, Gilroy's The Subject Was Roses, Russell's Educating Rita, Mamet's Oleanna and Glengarry Glen Ross, Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and Shakespeare's King Lear), as well as supporting roles in Shakespeare (Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew, Measure for Measure), Brecht, Chekhov, Fo, Genet, Giraudoux, Ruhl, Peter Shaffer, Shaw, Uhry, Wilde, Wilder, and others. In Tucson, he has acted with, among others, Arizona Repertory Theatre, Beowulf Alley Theatre, Borderlands Theatre, Live Theatre Workshop, and The Rogue Theatre. He performed his one-person play, My Life in Sports, for the 2016 United Solo Festival at Theatre Row on 42nd Street in New York City. He has also published articles and books of literary and film scholarship and criticism as well as various works of fiction and creative non-fiction. He has been reviewing theater for the Tucson Sentinel since last year.
TONY CAPRILE
Tony Caprile (Roy) is from Spokane, Washington where he was a resident artist of Interplayers Professional Theatre. He appeared in Interplayers' productions of Driving Miss Daisy, The Graduate, Opus, and Rounding Third which earned him a Best Actor in a Drama nomination from the Spokane Inlander. Other regional credits include Art, Sylvia and Toronto, Mississippi for The Merc Playhouse in Twisp, Washington. Tony has appeared in numerous plays and musicals for national award-winning Spokane Civic Theatre, including Richard Cory, White Christmas and Lend Me a Tenor. He has also appeared in Spokane Opera's productions of La Boheme, Man of La Mancha and The Impresario. Tony was recently seen in Maternal Instinct at the ZUZI and Winding Road's productions of Sovereign Body. Other local productions include Beowulf Alley Theatre's production of Glengarry Glen Ross and Winding Road's August: Osage County, Death of a Salesman and United.
Ben Branch
Having recently moved to Tucson from Phoenix, A Public Reading… marks Ben’s (Ron Miller) local stage debut. Originally hailing from Idaho, Ben attended Film School at Scottsdale Community College. His film work, both in front of and behind the camera, includes various music videos, independent films, and most recently working in the Art Department of Christopher Bradley’s ‘The Trigger’ (2017). Ben wishes to thank Bryan, Lizzie, and the incredible cast and crew for their creativity and collaborative spirit.
Lawrence Ware
Lawrence Ware (Lighting Designer) is currently a candidate for a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theatre Production; Design and Technology, with an emphasis in Lighting Design from The University of Arizona. Recently, he was the Assistant Lighting Designer and Master Electrician for Million Dollar Quartet, The Complete History of America- Abridged, and The Whipping Man at Endstation Theatre Company over their 2017 Season in Lynchburg, Virginia!
