An Evening of Scenes and Conversation (Feb 19, 2021)

An Evening of Scenes and Conversation

Our February 2021 salon was an artist spotlight on the second and third year students at the Philip Bennett TheatreLab and Conservatory. Taught by Philip Bennett through Konstantin Stanislavsky’s psychophysical training, the students presented seven scenes that showcase their work. The scenes were selected from the works of Sam Shepard, Tennessee Williams and Anton Chekhov.

Following the scenes Philip and the artists joined Artistic Director Bryan Rafael Falcón for a live virtual chat and take audience questions.

The evening featured the work of Oscar De La Rocha, Diane Dube, Elizabeth Falcón, Callie Hutchison, Sergio Jimenez, Andrew Kincaid, John Muller, Teresa Shade, Richard Michael Thompson, Jorge Taborda, Linda Varela, Bella Vivante, and Robbie Voigt.

The Yellow Wallpaper

by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Read by Claire Maire Mannle

A reading of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s 1892 gothic horror short story about the slow, chilling unraveling of a woman suffering both from a so-called “hysterical tendency” -- and from its prescribed cure. The story delves into gender dynamics and mental health, as well as the dangers of confinement: something we may recognize all too well in the present moment.

We offer two versions for your enjoyment:

  • On August 20th, 2020, The S&S offered a special Virtual Salon Event to premiere this new reading of The Yellow Wallpaper by Claire Marie Mannle and to talk about the work. Tyler Meier was the host with special guests Maria Celis & Claire Marie Mannle.

  • We also offer the audio only version of Claire Marie Mannle’s reading of the story.
