Mainstage Series
This season we offer five plays in our Mainstage Series that speak to the forces that keep us apart, and our will that can bring us together.
Due to the uncertainty of the pandemic that keeps us from gathering, we are offering our content in a number of new (yet old) formats - including radio plays, outdoor productions, and streaming online formats.

A Radio Play for Scoundrels
From the brilliantly twisted mind of Mickle Maher (There Is A Happiness That Morning Is) comes a new dark comedy that challenges the limits of the theatre’s magic while mashing up the curse of the audition, The Three Little Pigs and, curiously enough, Macbeth. At a community theatre audition for a new ‘adult adaptation’ of the Three Little Pigs, two sisters set out to search for an actor to play the role of the Wolf. As they struggle to cast the right actor, they are quickly confronted with the darkness inside the audition room– and themselves.

An Outdoor Play for Scoundrels and Scamps
A weary traveler named Hershel of Ostropol approaches a village where he finds not a single candle lit and townspeople cowering in fear. A band of frightful goblins has taken over the synagogue and have driven the townspeople away. Using wits alone, this clever trickster must face fearsome opponents over the course of the next eight nights. But can Hershel vanquish the shadows and bring the community together once again?

Ada and the Engine: An Update
After much consideration and discussion with our artists - and with the hope of a vaccine in play - our February mainstage show Ada and the Engine is postponed until late 2021. Please stay tuned for dates. We look forward to sharing this beautiful show with you in-person with its full design splendor in the fall. Ada was first postponed in March 2020 and came within two weeks of opening and thus the exquisite victorian costumes built, the set design gorgeous in its dreamlike splendor, and the Claire Hancock choreography waiting to be experienced in-person. Thank you for your understanding.

New voices and new visions from a world, interrupted. The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre and The University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film and Television present a devised work written in collaboration with Theatre Studies students from The University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television. In FROM THE FISHBOWL, visual theatre creator Wolfe Bowart directs a cast of performers who glide magically and seamlessly between stage and screens.

A Play for Scoundrels and Scamps
Wolfe Bowart (Cloud Soup, U.S. Premiere) returns to the S&S stage with his unique solo physical comedy. What first appears to be a simple story about a man inhabiting a slightly off-kilter dead letter office becomes something altogether unexpected. Ultimately Letter’s End is a wondrous and poignant journey down a most magical memory lane, where mops sneeze and storks swoop in bearing gifts and trees grow out of shoes.

We are inspired by the Jubilee Season movement to support a diverse, inclusive, and intersectional vision in 2020-2021 as a way of celebrating the work of traditionally marginalized voices.

An Online Reading for Scoundrels (Reading Series)
This season we are excited to present to our audiences the winner of a new contest hosted in collaboration with the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA). This year’s competition winner, The Crack: Among Wild Animals, has been selected from a diverse field of plays translated into English that that explore the theme of ‘In Between’ .
Lucía, Nico and Tomás are three city-dwelling friends who decide to spend a weekend away at a rustic country cottage together to relax. However, with echoes of Sartre’s No Exit, the three friends find the time away with each other more than they ever bargained for.
This translation was graciously funded by the Society of Authors and Publishers of Spain (SGAE).
