CLASSES AT the S&S

The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre offers workshops and ensemble training for youth and adults, with an emphasis on the collaborative nature of the theatrical art.  We partner with local primary and secondary schools to shape the complete theatre artist, onstage, backstage, and front-of-house.

Spring 2023 Classes will Run January through march.

NOTE: We are pleased to make available several scholarships to Scamps every year. If the cost of a Scamp class presents a barrier to your child enrolling, please contact us at classes@scoundrelandscamp.org and let us know — we’d love to provide you with a scholarship.

Acting & Theatre Arts (for ages 8-14)

Taught by resident Teaching artist Hunter hnat

Runs Saturdays, 10:30 - 11:45 AM; January 14 - March 25, 2023
Cost: $180 for 9 sessions and a special performance.

Acting & Theatre Arts is a semester-long course recommended for students ages 8-14 who wish to learn the basics or improve their existing skills in acting and theatrical arts through stories, activities, games, collaboration, and movement. Students will dive into stories and learn about performance, stage presence, and physical artistry.

Hand Puppets for the Stage (for ages 8-18)

Taught by Artistic Associate Lisa Sturz of Red herring Puppets

Runs Saturdays, 10:30 - 11:45 AM; February 11 - March 25, 2023
Cost: $180 for 5 sessions and a special performance + $15 materials fee

Build your own puppets and put on a show! Renowned Puppetmaster Lisa Sturz has worked with Jim Henson Productions, Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucasfilm, PBS, and many more! Participants work with clay, papier-mâché, fabric, and paint. Scamps will build puppet characters, write a story, and learn puppet manipulation. They will record character voices and add music and sound effects to create an original soundtrack.

Scamp Company (for ages 8-18)

Taught by guest teaching artist Gretchen wirges

Runs Saturdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM; January 14 - March 19, 2023
Cost: $380 for the spring session

This is the second half of the year-long Scamp Company program. Scamp Company is the youth ensemble that will mount a full MainStage production. Students will develop their confidence, performance skills, and stage presence. The course will cultivate a sense of dedication to craft, respect for fellow artists, and joy in performing. The semester culminates in a one-weekend performance run.

Scamp Design & Tech (for ages 12-18)

Taught by guest teaching artists Annika Maher, Raulie Martinez, & Others!

Runs Saturdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM; January 14 - March 19, 2023
Cost: $195 for 9 sessions plus the performances of The Trial of Loki

Design and craft the world of a play! Scamp Design & Tech Corps is recommended for for students ages 12-18 who are interested in learning about the design, technical, and production side of the theater, as well as what it takes to run a production. Scamps in this course will help with design and tech for The Trial of Loki alongside theatre professionals!
