Hand Puppets for stage

Runs: February 11 - March 25, 2023

Who: Youth ages 8-18

When: Saturdays, 10:30 - 11:45 AM; February 11 - March 25, with a showcase on on the last day of class. (No class on February 25 for Rodeo Break.)

Cost: $195 ($180 + $15 materials fee).

Instructor: Lisa Sturz, S&S Artistic Associate

Build your own puppets and put on a show!

Renowned Puppetmaster Lisa Sturz has worked with Jim Henson Productions, Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucasfilm, PBS, and many more! Her puppetry expertise and artistry brings a whimsical flair to puppet creation and performance, and she’ll share her tips and tricks of the trade in this course.

Participants work with clay, papier-mâché, fabric, and paint. Scamps will build puppet characters, write a story, and learn puppet manipulation. They will record character voices and add music and sound effects to create an original soundtrack. Friends and family are invited to the final performance on March 25!

New and experienced puppeteers are all welcome!

  • Puppeteering and showmanship

  • Ensemble building and nurturing

  • Movement and gesture

  • Performance skills, including vocal skills and physical presence

  • Collaborative storytelling

  • Observation and listening

  • An understanding of puppet and theatre terms and technologies
