An Online Learning Adventure with Cody Landstrom & Wolfe Bowart
with Hunter Hnat as The Class Librarian

This workshop is intended for ages 8 and older.

Calling all young magicians! Make your wand. Learn tricks. Create your own magic shows!

Your Magic Library is a fast-paced and wacky online workshop that offers entertaining step-by-step instructions on magic and stage performance and helps to develop valuable physical and social skills in learners of all ages.

Over six sessions participants will watch a 30 minute video adventure starring Cody Landstrom and Wolfe Bowart followed by a 30 minute Zoom working session with The Class Librarian, Hunter Hnat. The class will also benefit from guest appearances by Wolfe Bowart.

Each participant will receive a supplies kit prior to beginning the class to provide them with the raw materials for magic!

After the six sessions, the Scoundrel and Scamp will hold a special Virtual Salon in May where the young magicians will be able to put on their own magic show and take questions from the audience.

What: 6 classes, March 13th - April 17th on Saturdays from 1pm to 2pm. The work created by the class will be shared in a Virtual Salon in May.

In Your Magic Libary Students will Learn

  • Basic sleight of hand with cards, coins, rope and more

  • Basic juggling, balancing and other fun circus skills

  • Houdini’s greatest escape performed with simple rubber bands

  • Discover the secret of levitation!

  • Make a magic wand and other magical props!

Artist Bios

Wolfe stars in the online adventures and will appear as a guest artist at the Scoundrel and Scamp.

Wolfe Bowart

As an award-winning physical theater creator/performer, Wolfe has toured his original productions to 22 countries worldwide.

His honors include a Creative Fellowship awarded by the West Australian Department of Culture & Arts, two Helpmann Award nominations and multi-year recognition by the Australian Council for the Arts. As an educator, Bowart has worked as a mentor, workshop leader, masterclass instructor and artist-in-residence with students ranging in age from 4 to 74.

Over the past twenty years, he has taught in the US, Europe, the UK, Australia and Mexico in association with such organizations as the Los Angeles Music Center, Wolf Trap ArtStart, the Ahmanson Theater, the South Coast Repertory Theater, the Playwrights Project, the Virginia Avenue Project, Australia’s National Institute of Circus Arts and the University of Arizona’s School of Theatre, Film & Television.

Wolfe is an Artistic Associate at the Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre and was lauded for his work at the S&S on OAF and Cloud Soup. For more info about Wolfe’s work please visit www.spoontree.com

 

Hunter will lead the workshop portion of the class.

Hunter Hnat

Hunter is an actor and teacher, a member of The Rogue ensemble and on staff at The S&S Theatre.

Hunter has been teaching Acting, Singing, and Dancing to Tucson youth since he was a youth himself. Hunter has his BFA in Musical Theatre from The University Of Arizona and since then has performed throughout Tucson at Arizona Theatre Company, The Rogue Theatre, Live Theatre Workshop, Studio Connection and at the Scoundrel & Scamp.

We welcome him back for his second year as an instructor for our scamps.

Cody Landstrom

For the past 20 years, respected library presenter Cody has consistently engaged communities in their local libraries with his heartfelt performances that promote literacy and encourage curiosity. Yearly visits with his “Reading is Magic” show has ensured a multi-generational fanbase for Cody and drawn a wide range of audiences to over 1200 US Public Libraries.

Cody has devoted his summers to performing for Library Reading Programs and spends the rest of the year performing magic nationally and internationally for private and corporate events.
