Stagecraft for SCAMPs +
A Scamp Production

Who: Students ages 11-18

When: Classes on Saturdays, 10:30 - 11:45 a.m., Jan 11 - Mar 7, 2020 with a showcase on March 8th at 7pm.

Cost: $300, all materials included (a $50 savings over signing up for each separately)

Instructors: Holly Griffith, Hunter Hnat, Marguerite Saxton and guest artists.

Design? Act? Write? Direct? Do it all! A Scamp Production: The Conclusion and Stagecraft for Scamps are companion classes where students can experience all aspects of a theatrical production. Part 1 is the first of two semester-long experiences. This course is recommended for students ages 11-18. The course will cultivate a sense of dedication to craft, respect for fellow artists, and joy in performing. New students welcome!

The production will culminate in a production completely written, performed and run by the Scamp Company in the spring.

Note: Students interested in learning the technical and design aspects of theater should consider joining us for Stagecraft for Scamps, which runs from 9am-10:15.

Skills students will develop during this course:

  • Ensemble building and nurture.

  • Movement and gesture

  • Vocal skills

  • Collaborative storytelling

  • An introduction to the instruments, technology and art of lighting for theater..

  • Exposure to the drafting and design methodology behind set and properties design.

  • Opportunities to design and gather costumes.

  • Experience on how design can speaks to the message and needs of a play.

  • Observation and listening

  • An understanding of theatre terms and technologies
