Betsy Labiner
Director of EDUcation
Betsy Labiner holds a PhD in English literature from the University of Arizona; her dissertation focuses on English drama from the 16th and 17th centuries. Betsy has over a decade of experience in education at both the K-12 and university level, and is a passionate advocate for education in the humanities and arts in the classroom as well as in the community. Along with her academic work in stories, drama, and the arts, Betsy is devoted to the development of performing arts, increasing access to and inclusivity in the arts, and fostering community engagement with local theaters.
Zachary Austin
Zachary Austin is a born-and-raised Tucson local and can be found enjoying good company and basking in the entertainment Tucson has to offer. He began his foray into Tucson theatre after graduation from the University of Arizona in 2020.
Zac is very honored and excited to be taking on the role of Mephistopheles in the S&S production of Faustus: That Damned Woman this fall. Some of his past credits include Ensemble in Citizen: An American Lyric and Sir Andrew in Twelfth Night. Beyond acting, he was also the magic coordinator for the University of Arizona’s production of Pippin.
Annika Maher
Annika received her BFA in Theatre Production/Design with an emphasis in Stage Management from the University of Arizona in 2020. Some of her previous stage management credits include: The Two Gentlemen of Verona (SM), The Last Night of Ballyhoo (SM), Sinkers: An Original Work of Physical Theatre (SM), The Addams Family (ASM), and Sister Act (ASM). Annika would like to thank everyone at Scoundrel & Scamp for being so amazing to work with. Lastly, she wants to thank her parents, family, friends, and Zac for their constant love and support.
Gretchen Wirges
Gretchen Wirges has appeared on and directed for many of the Tucson theater stages (Invisible Theatre, Old Pueblo Playwrights, Winding Road, Arizona Onstage, Scoundrel & Scamp, The Rogue, and Live Theatre Workshop). As an accomplished playwright, her plays have been produced locally to great success. Gretchen has an extensive background in improvisation, having been an a founding member of Unscrewed Theater. She directed the award-winning troupe, Unwritten, which performed fully-improvised full-length plays. Gretchen has also served as a mentor/director for Live Theatre Workshop's Young Playwrights program for the last 4 years and for Scoundrel and Scamp's youth theatre classes for the last 2 years. Recently, her play BRAINS. HEART. COURAGE. HOME. was performed as the inaugural Scamp Company production — which she also directed and costumed.
Lisa Aimee Sturz
Red Herring Puppets
Lisa is the Owner and Artistic Director of Red Herring Puppets. She has an MFA in puppetry from UCLA and over 40 years of experience building, performing, and directing puppetry for film & television, theatre, museums, educational institutions, and special events.
