Late Night Radio Hour PRESENTS
BRAVE NEW WORLD
A Radio Play
February 3rd, 2024 @ 10 PM
by Aldous Huxley, adapted by Samantha Severson
“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture.”
— Neil Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death
A parable about the dehumanization of human beings. Set less than 200 years into the future, the dystopia described in Huxley's story is a place where man has been subordinated to his own inventions. Science, technology, social organization -- these things have ceased to serve humanity and have become its masters. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.
The Late Night Radio Hour is a new series at the S&S produced and directed by Samantha Severson. The three-play series takes place in front of a live audience and is presented in a “Golden Age of Radio” style. The experience is augmented by an on-stage Sound Artist performing foley live in front of the theater audience.
